A definite number of districts is selected from the list of all (26) the administrative districts of Latvia using the probability sampling. This sample of districts is proportional to the regional division of permanent residents in Latvia:
- Riga 34.1%
- Vidzeme 23.0%
- Kurzeme 13.3%
- Zemgale 14.1%
- Latgale 15.5%
From the selected districts by the probability sampling the places of residence are selected accordingly the number of residents and urbanization level.
Number of survey points are defined in every place of residence. In every point interviews in 10 households are realized. Selection of the households is done according with the route specification where the beginning point and principles of the route are defined. The respondent is selected accordingly with the first birthday rule. In the case the selected respondent cannot be interviewed in the moment, the interviewer tries three more contacts with him (her). If these three contacts are not successful, the next respondent is chosen according with the first birthday rule.
